Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is a fun and easy way to you to be able to manage your bookmarks virtually and to eventually share them with social networking sites.  It is really popular because instead of bookmarking your content on one computer, it can just be stored on the web so you can access it from any computer you may be around. Cool, right?

There are some advantages when it comes to your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) using social bookmarking. One advantage is that you will be able to get a backlink when you bookmark a certain site.  Something that you need to keep in mind is that not all social networking sites will allow you to follow their link. A “No follow” link is when you can see the link, but will not be able to click it to follow it. This is just so the search engine sites will not be able to track the website.  Another cool advantage is that you can bookmark your URL lists, which can help you get indexed, if done correctly of course.  Now, something to also remember while doing so is that Google’s search results come directly from their index, which means that if your page isn’t indexed, it is highly unlikely to get noticed, let alone be on the first page of Google, Yahoo, Bing and others. To see how exactly to index your websites, read our post about indexing websites.
